Walter White, a light-skinned black man, disguised himself as a white man to investigate the KKK.

His name was Walter Francis White. He was born in 1893 and at one point was the secretary of the Atlanta branch of the NAACP. During that time, he organized a campaign to improve African American public facilities in the city, which had been a problem at the time. Eventually, he was given a different task at the NAACP- investigating lynching and race riots.
His skin was so light that he was able to pass himself off as a white person and get information on groups like the Ku Klux Klan. All of his research was eventually published in his book, Rope and Faggot. The same year the book was published, he became chief executive of the NAACP. Walter White is also the one who recruited Thurgood Marshall to the NAACP’s legal department.
You may remember Marshall as the first African American Supreme Court Justice. Walter White remained the NAACP’s official spokesperson until his death in 1955.
